You have a Chromebook lying around and you’re thinking of passing it on to your grandmother or little sister? You’ll have to perform a factory reset in order to wipe out all of your personal data first. Unless you don’t mind them having access to your files, photos, saved networks and passwords, but that's pretty hard to believe.

So, following these few steps, you’ll be able to quickly delete everything and then be presented with the initial sign up screens.

1. Click the status area found in the lower-right corner, where your account picture appears. 2. Select Settings. Then click Show Advanced Settings at the bottom of the list. 3. Find the “Factory Reset” option and simply click Reset. 4. A dialogue box will swiftly open. Click Restart.

There’s also an even simpler way of reseting your Chromebook to the original factory state. From the Sign-in screen, just press the Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R key combination and click Restart.

Doing so will bring up the Powerwash prompt, which you have to choose in order to wipe clean your device of all the information. The process takes just a few minutes, so you’ll be good to go in no time.

The solutions outlined above should work with any Chromebook you have laying around.
