Thank your friends for the special moments on Facebook

Facebook had some pretty massive success when it introduced the “Look Back” videos back as the year began and now it hopes to hit another home run with a new tool called “Say Thanks.”

“Millions of people use Facebook every day to connect with the people and things that matter to them most. Your friends are at the core of your Facebook experience, and we are always looking for new ways to help you celebrate those friendships. Today we’re excited to announce Say Thanks, an experience that lets you create personalized video cards for your friends on Facebook,” write Facebook’s Cameron Ewing, design manager, and Nick Kwiatek, engineer manager.

What makes these new videos cool is the fact that they’re not limited to a single individual, meaning that you won’t get to see your own photos, posts and history on Facebook, but rather do something nice for a friend or family member.

“Say Thanks” comes right ahead of Thanksgiving, which puts the whole situation into perspective. Facebook states that there are no limits to how many personalized videos you can create and share.

How to make a video

There’s a very simple way for you to make one of these and it doesn’t take any kind of special skills to make one. All you have to do is visit facebook.com/thanks, choose a friend and Facebook will generate a preview of the video.

You can then go ahead and fiddle around with the way the video looks. For instance, you can pick one of two themes. One is dedicated to old friends, while one is meant for the newest members of your friend list.

The song changes for each of them, and so do the messages fitted between the bunch of pictures that pepper the 45-second video.

Once you pick a friend from the list, Facebook provides you with a series of posts and photos that you shared with that particular person on the social network, be them cute pics you posted or somewhere you were tagged together.

When you’re satisfied with the video, you can click the “Share” button. You can even write a personalized message before posting the video, which will appear on your timeline, with your friend tagged in the post. This means that the video will also be visible on their Timeline as well.

“Say Thanks” will be rolling out globally on desktop and mobile versions of Facebook in English, French, German, Indonesia, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.
