14 DAY TRIAL // The new Cinnamon 2.0.6 has been released, and Ubuntu users can now install it with the help of a PPA.
Shortly after launching a new stable build of Cinnamon, the developers have uploaded the files into the stable PPA. This means that Ubuntu users can now install the new version with great ease.
The PPA works for Ubuntu 11.10, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 13.04, and Ubuntu 13.10, which is also the latest version made available by Canonical.
If you already have the PPA in your system, updating the it will also install Cinnamon 2.0.6. If you don't have Cinnamon installed, you can test it with the help of a PPA.
Just open a terminal and enter the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cinnamon
After installing all the necessary packages, just log out and change the log-in option to Cinnamon. Enjoy Cinnamon 2.0.6!
UPDATE: It seems that the problems with Unity haven't been fixed and some users might have problems logging into their system. If that happens open a terminal from Lightdm (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and run the following commands:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove cinnamon sudo apt-get autoremove sudo apt-get update -f sudo apt-get dist-upgrade You should be able to use Unity once more.
