And spend time killing aliens

You might remember that a little while ago, Sony launched an online magazine called Qore (notice the interesting word play) which was not free, but promised to offer exclusive content for readers that were not scared of the price tag.

It seems that the first real interesting thing to be offered via Qore is a key for the online public beta test of a little game called Resistance 2, one of the most eagerly anticipated shooters for the PlayStation 3, developed by Insomniac Games. The move to give a key to all Qore subscribers was met with hostility on the Internet, mainly because of the fact that the online magazine is at the moment only available in North America, which might mean that the public beta would be inaccessible to those in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. And let me tell you, after reading some of the messages posted online, there's no fury like that of a betrayed gamer.

The good news is that Insomniac Games got their public relations act together very quickly and contacted the Kotaku blog to clarify the facts. Yes, all the subscribers of Qore are going to get a public beta test key, but that does not mean that other ways of getting into the beta will not be available.

Insomniac says that "The best way which will give you the earliest access to the beta will involve a pre-order program that should be announced soon, (for those of you who don't know what pre-ordering is, you essentially reserve your copy with five dollars down, and that five dollars will go towards the price of the game when it releases)".

Resistance 2 tells the story of how Chimera, the humanoid maybe-aliens from the first Resistance, have hopped into their enormous airships for a sightseeing trip over the United States. Of course, the dashing hero must fight them off and you're there to help him.

Stay tuned to Softpedia for news on the pre-order program and on the public beta test.
