Downgrade using WhatsApp 2.11.5 binary downloaded from the web

If you’re one of the many users plagued by crashes after installing WhatsApp 2.11.6, there’s an easy fix, provided that you have a jailbroken device.

Jailbreaking is not a practice condoned by Apple, but if you’re already wielding a hacked iPhone, you might as well try and downgrade your WhatsApp version to be able to chat with your friends until the fix arrives.

Mind you, this is not something I recommend, but I’m getting a lot of comments urging me to provide a solution. So if you think this helps, try finding a WhatsApp.ipa using Google (here’s something to get you going) and make sure it’s a version lower than WhatsApp 2.11.6. For example, WhatsApp 2.11.5.

After you’ve downloaded your WhatsApp.ipa file, connect your iPhone to a computer with iTunes installed, wait for iTunes to recognize the device, and drag the WhatsApp.ipa file onto the applications folder. Sync, and you should now have the older WhatsApp installed.

Remember, this procedure is not condoned by Apple or WhatsApp Inc., nor is it something I’d personally recommend. But for those of you determined to solve this problem on your own, I thought I’d give you some pointers. Godspeed!

Update: WhatsApp 2.11.7 is now available with fixes for the widely reported crashing bug.
