Software Update Server may not provide updates after upgrade

Apple has released a knowledge base article detailing an issue that may arise after upgrading an OS X Server installation to the latest version (Mavericks).

In a Support note, Apple tries its best to explain what’s going on, saying “After upgrading a Software Update Server from OS X Server (Mountain Lion) to OS X Server (Mavericks), it might not be possible to serve software updates for OS X Mavericks clients.”

Everybody confused? The basic idea is that Software Update Server may not provide Mavericks updates after upgrade. That’s it. And the steps to fix this are outlined in said Support document.

The fix includes some Terminal tinkering and a careful reconfiguration of Update settings. Head over to Support document TS5305 if you need assistance, and let Apple know if the instructions have been useful. They like that.
