Unresponsive PS3s can be brought back to life using a simple guide

An unofficial guide that helps PlayStation 3 owners who bricked their consoles by installing firmware 4.45 has appeared, allowing those whose devices no longer start properly due to the faulty software to fix the issue on their own.

Sony caused a major problem for many PS3 owners around the world yesterday when its new firmware update, which took the console's software to version 4.45, actually bricked many devices, leaving them unresponsive.

An unofficial guide to fix the problem has just been revealed on Reddit and it seems that results are quite favorable.

Apparently, it involves accessing the console's secret Safe mode bypasses the current official firmware version.

Check out the guide below:

- Power off the ps3 - Hold down the power on key until the system has powered up three times. - Do not release the power key until the third power up: - The first power up is normal mode (which is broken); - The second is video reset mode (which won't help); - The third will bypass the broken firmware and let you re-update.

We haven't been able to test the workaround, as our PS3s haven't been affected by the bricking issue, but you can try it out and post a comment with the experience.

Sony, as of yet, is still working on a solution for the new firmware 4.45. Until an official announcement is made, the company confirmed that it's taken down version 4.45 so PS3 owners can go online without being prompted to download the faulty software.

There's no word on an official guide to fixing the issue, and Sony is still silent on the firmware problem, despite many PS3 users flooding the official forums and social media channels with complaints or at least pleas for help.

Stay tuned for more details in the near future.
