Bring back lost files from beyond the Recycle Bin

Accidents happen all the times, and they don’t need to be messy to make your blood pressure rise considerably. Simply deleting important files or documents can get you nervous in seconds.

The first place to look in such situations is the Recycle Bin, but if you’ve happened to keep Shift pressed while removing, things get a bit more complicated. It’s not always your fault though, with some scenarios leading to lost files because of corrupt storage devices.

Luckily, computer enthusiasts have come up with ways to scrub every sector of a storage device and trace each byte in an attempt to reconstruct the file you lost. There’s no way to do this with Windows default features, but if you do a little research over the web, you know it can be done just as described in the following steps.

Scan and retrieval

Step 1: Download and install Recuva.

Step 2: Run it, and hit Next to jump to content.

Step 3: Select the type of file you’re looking for, and hit Next.

Step 4: Pick a target location from the list. It can even be CDs/DVDs and USB Flash drives.

Step 5: Enable Deep Scan for thorough search. Although there are more chances of success, this method takes considerable more time.

Step 6: Select the files you want back and click on Recover.

Step 7: Choose a destination and click OK to confirm.

Note: These are only the basic steps of file recovery using the built-in Wizard. There’s also an advanced method, with the possibility to go through method configuration, apply filters, and more.

Don’t get too excited, because not all files can be recovered. It’s only possible if the target disk drive is not completely unreadable. What’s more, special programs can be used to permanently delete files, in which case there’s no hope for recovery.
