The most advanced speaker-calibration tool, now shipping

This is a rather exclusive piece of news as it concerns the owners of Wisdom Adrenaline and Infinite sound systems; indeed it would have been really cool if Wisdom actually issued a tool for the universal calibration of loudspeakers...but since the DCAB-1 is the first attempt in this direction, maybe we'll get to see such gear on the shelves, actually.

Cutting to the chase, it's all about the latest trend among sound afficionados: loudspeaker and multi-channel sound systems calibration, so you can technically get more from your gear by optimizing its performance according to each room's acoustic response. Not that such an improvement is a bad thing, but it's that people usually place money in audio gear and then think about the way it performs in their rooms... if they ever do.

The DCAB-1 is an acronym for Digitally Controlled Analog Brain and has absolutely nothing to do with Hal... it will not think by itself and will not try to kill you, that's for sure. Instead, the Wisdom DCAB-1 will require connection to your PC and consists of a computer-based interface for a room analyzer, linked to a series of hyper-complex and accurate filters that will ultimately allow you to control the behavior of your sound system's loudspeakers down to very detailed specs so you can actually compensate for the room's imperfections.

According to Wisdom, the settings for your gear are repeatable for absolutely any parameter it can trace and therefore you can test various setups until you find what's exactly right for you. Electronic House shed significantly more light on the operational specs of the Wisdom DCAB-1 in Arlen Schweiger's short (but comprising presentation):

"A remote control that communicates with the Brain bidirectionally, sending instructions to and receiving information back from the main unit, displaying changes and status on its small screen.

A real time analyzer and calibrated microphone that is matched (via calibration) to a reference microphone.

An RS-232 interface used to connect a computer for calibration and setup. It provides two-way communication between the DCAB-1 and the computer. The PC interface is used for adjusting all the parameters of the crossover/equalizer.

Balanced Audio Inputs and Outputs."

Price TBA.
