Using a Mozilla extension designed by Meebo

Since Yahoo Messenger is one of the most popular instant messaging clients on the web, it's pretty obvious that numerous companies try to develop alternative ways to access the application. Today, meebo, which is probably the best all-in-one web-based instant messaging technology, rolled out the 'meebo extension for Firefox', a very useful add-on which can bring the communication protocols inside Mozilla's browser. The extension was announced one week ago when it was revealed that Firefox is the lucky browser supposed to work with meebo and get its communication features straight into the application.

As far as I can see, the browser add-on works pretty amazing, creating a contact sidebar inside Firefox which provides one-click access to your friends. Obviously, you can login in any of the Meebo networks, including AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk, MSN, ICQ and Jabber. What's more useful is that the extension turns your browser into a real instant messaging application, creating an interface similar to one and bundling meebo's features.

"meebo is so excited to release our first crack at an integrated communications experience for meebo and Firefox users," said Seth Sternberg, founder and CEO, meebo. "We worked really hard on this, so please let us know what you think!"

Besides the meebo features, the extension also includes alert support which means you're notified every time a contact signs in/out or every time you receive a message. In addition, you can easily share links and photos with your contacts by dragging these elements over the friend's ID appearing in the sidebar.

As we expected, the browser is available for free for all the users and is able to work with Firefox 1.5 - 2.0.0. The download has no more than 64 KB so I don't think it would be a problem, no matter what type of connection you have.
