While the number of USB 3.0-enabled flash drives and HDDs is slowly, but surely increasing, things aren't looking very good for older drives and storage solutions, and in order to breathe some new life into these “antiquated” pieces of gear, NewerTech has recently introduced the USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter, designed for connecting any 2.5″, 3.5″, or 5.25″ hard drive, SSD, or optical drive to Macs and PCs via USB 3.0. The NewerTech USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter provides a USB 3.0 data transfer rate speed of up to 5Gb/s (500MB/s) and is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 interface equipped computers. Moreover, the adapter supports hard drives up to 2TB and sports a LED light that informs of an accurate device connection and disk activity. It's also important to point out that the NewerTech USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter has been tested to work with all hard drive brands, including Maxtor, Seagate, IBM, Hitachi, Samsung, Western Digital, and Fujitsu, optical drive brands, including LG, Lite-On, Panasonic, Pioneer, Plextor, Sony, Teac, and Toshiba and removable media drives, such as Iomega Zip. "We're very excited to be adding the fastest data transfer interface currently available to our universal drive adapter line," said Grant Dahlke, Brand Manager, Newer Technology Inc. "The USB 2.0 model has been a resounding success with the media and consumers over the past six years and we fully expect this new model to become a 'must have' tool for computer technicians as well the average user," added Mr. Dahlke. The NewerTech USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter is available as we speak via NewerTech's exclusive distributor, Other World Computing (OWC), as well as through the retail channel and comes with power cables, interface connecting cables, a heavy duty UL listed 2.0 Amp AC adapter, and a full one year NewerTech warranty, all available for $39.99 MSRP.
