Apple hasn’t said a thing about the actual amount of cash being offered to the Global Fund to use for combating AIDS

Last week, Apple announced its World AIDS Day 2014 Campaign for (RED), disclosing its plans to generate donations for (RED) in various ways over the upcoming two weeks. In the several years it has been supporting the campaign, Apple has raised in excess of $75 million / €60 million.

In a press release issued on November 23, the Cupertino giant announced plans to generate new donations for the (RED) initiative to fight AIDS. Unlike previous years, the company devised a scheme where it would couple (RED) sales with Black Friday, in an effort to ramp up donations. However, as of yet, there is no word on how much money it actually raised this year.

“A portion of every sale”

Apple stated loud and clear that, for two weeks, it would sell a bunch of (RED)-themed apps with new content where all proceeds go directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.

“From Monday, November 24 through Sunday, December 7, the App Store’s Apps for (RED) campaign will feature 25 fan-favorite apps with exclusive new content. Every time a customer purchases a participating (PRODUCT)RED app or an exclusive In-App Purchase, all proceeds will go to the Global Fund.”

Pretty straightforward, right? Well, not if you don’t know how many downloads were registered. Then Apple said that, for every sale recorded on Friday, November 28, it would “donate a percentage to the Global Fund.”

Finally, and most importantly, it also noted that “On Monday, December 1— World AIDS Day—Apple will donate a portion of every sale at Apple’s retail and online stores to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.”

It’s Tuesday

There’s nothing wrong with Apple’s initiative, just to be clear on one aspect. We trust the Cupertino giant to have delivered on its promise, but it would also be nice to know how much they actually gave away this year.

Since Apple’s Black Friday deals aren’t too attractive (some would go as far as to call them a slap in the face), you can’t count too much on Apple Store sales. We trust that more money will actually come from the (RED) app sales.

Which brings us to our conclusion that Apple might be holding off the second announcement until the app deal runs its course. However, that’s one week from now.

There are 25 apps that you can download and support (RED), including CSR Racing, many of the Angry Birds titles, algoriddim’s djay apps, Clash of Clans, and more.
