MobileUnlocked has put together a comprehensive Global Price Map showing how much it costs to own an iPhone 5s in various parts of the world – a global price list, if you will.

The iPhone 5S price index aims to show the relationship between cost of the phone and the national GDP (PPP) per capita for all the countries where Apple sells it.

For those who are less interested in the specifics, the map acts as a bird’s eye view (more like an alien’s eye view) of where the iPhone 5s is the most expensive, and the least expensive (since “cheap” isn’t a word you can use in this context, no matter how hard you try to squeeze it in).

Based on the customer’s average GDP, “China is currently the most expensive with the iPhone 5S price being 9.55% of the average GDP. Whereas the USA, Apple’s home country, is the cheapest, standing at just 1.15%,” reports MobileUnlocked reports.

The data was collected based on the iPhone 5s model that sells the most, namely the 16GB version.

“All the data we’ve collected is based on the most popular 16GB version of the 5S, with all prices coming directly from the local Apple stores for each country or a listed official supplier from the Apple site that were available on November 18th 2013,” says the firm.

“Diving further into the detail, we also wanted to highlight the prices before and after sales tax in each country,” the report adds.

The map is interactive, allowing viewers to hover over the world map with their mouse pointer and see various price information, with options to switch from US Dollars ($) to British Pounds (£).

MobileUnlocked plans to update its index and provide even more accurate numbers as the iPhone 5s launches in more countries.
