Stats show that not everyone uses it every day

The last time Microsoft provided information on the number of users who installed Windows 10 on their devices, be they PCs or tablets, was in January, when it revealed that the Windows Insider program had a total of 2.8 million members, 60,000 of which were said to be running the phone preview.

This leaves with approximately 2.7 million Windows 10 users who installed the PC version of the operating system, but some figures provided by market researchers across the world show that not everyone is running the technical preview on a daily basis.

Gregg Keizer of CW noticed that Net Applications’ data puts Windows 10 Technical Preview at 0.09 percent market share, which means that approximately 0.1 percent of all Windows users across the world are running the technical preview.

Given the fact that there are about 1.5 billion Windows users in the whole world (based on Microsoft’s very own statistics), this means that approximately 1.5 million of them are also running Windows 10 Technical Preview on their computers.

The gap between this figure and Microsoft’s data most likely represents the number of users who install Windows 10 TP in a virtual machine or on secondary computers and rarely launch them, so it’s hard to be included in third-party data.

New previews at a faster pace

Microsoft expects the number of insiders to increase in the coming months, as it’s working to make previews available at a faster pace and thus give everyone a reason to use the new operating system on a regular basis.

Previously, the company was heavily criticized for needing more than a month to bring out new technical previews, so it’s now working not only to release builds faster but also to introduce a new ring that would give those interested the possibility of installing earlier builds that are more prone to bugs.

A final decision on this is yet to be made, but the insider community wants new Windows 10 builds as fast as possible, so expect the upcoming BUILD developer conference to bring some news in this regard.
