Both services were under DDoS attacks from the Lizard Squad

Have you been planning a gaming day on Christmas where you would invite friends to play some co-op games on either Xbox or PlayStation console? Unfortunately, playing on any of the two consoles has proven quite difficult on Christmas day because both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network services were down for most of the day.

Currently, both services should be back online, but that's not because Sony and Microsoft have managed for find and remove the root of the issues. It's because none other than MegaUpload's Kim Dotcom made a small miracle for console gamers.

Obviously, you may be wondering what's got Kim Dotcom anything to do with bringing PlayStation Network and Xbox Live back online when neither Sony and Microsoft were successful at this task.

Well, a few days ago a group known as Lizard Squad warned that it would attack PlayStation Network and Xbox Live services on Christmas day. Another group calling themselves Finest Squad said they would attempt to stop the former group for whatever bad thing they would try to do to both gaming services.

It was Kim Dotcom who stopped Lizard Squad after all, not Fine Squad

The bad news is they haven't been able to stop Lizard Squad from what they've planned to do and the day of December 25, 2014, will always be remembered by console gamers as the day they were not able to log in to PlayStation Network or Xbox Live and play their favorite games.

The fact that both services were down for most of the day affected those who got PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles as gifts and wanted to download games and play them.

Given that both services were working only intermittently and not at full capacity, it took players between 12 and 20 hours to download a full game.

Being under DDoS attack from Lizard Squad caused both gaming services to collapse and seeing that Sony and Microsoft haven't managed to stop these electronic attacks, Kim Dotcom decided to take the matter into his own hands and solve the problem the easy way: by offering something in return for stopping these DDoS attacks.

So, about 7 hours ago Kim Dotcom said that he was asking Mega management to approve 3000 Mega privacy premium vouchers for Lizard Squad, each worth of $99, if they stop attacking PlayStation Network and Xbox Live immediately.

It only took a few minutes for Lizard Squad to stop any ongoing DDoS attacks on the services and await for Kim Dotcom to keep his promise.

One hour later all vouchers changed hands and the attacks completely stopped so Xbox and PlayStation players should now be able to log in to both services and play games once again.

The deal between Kim Dotcom and Lizard Squad was that the latter would never attack PlayStation Network and Xbox Live services again, otherwise those vouchers that have been converted to lifetime will be terminated.

Lizard Squad agreed with Kim Dotcom's terms and stopped the attacks, so that everyone can play. So, this is how Kim Dotcom has saved Christmas. What do you make of it?
