CBS’ long-running and critically acclaimed sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” came to an end last night, after 9 very successful and highly rated seasons. With the final episode airing, fans took to Twitter to discuss the way the story wrapped up and, unfortunately, to let the creators of “Seinfeld” and “Lost” off the hook.

The problem with the series finale of “HIMYM” was that, while Ted finally got to meet the mother of his children, she was treated like an afterthought by the showrunners and writers. Fans found it absolutely outrageous that sloppy and rushed writing would do away with 9 years of solid character development just like that.

Too Fab and the Daily Mail have some of their reactions to the finale and, suffice it to say, most of them seem to be upset because they feel cheated by the way the ending was handled. This was not what the characters deserved, it is not ok for a show to grow at a steady pace only to be given a rushed ending, they say.

“Seinfeld” and “Lost” have direct competition for the worst series ending ever in the history of television, many angry fans also say.

In a scathing review of the finale, IB Times goes even further to say that showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have proved with this last episode that, for 9 full seasons, “they never had a clue why people even watched their show.” Ouch.

CBS and the showrunners are yet to address the furor but, when they do, rest assured you’ll find out about it here. Meanwhile, tell me: what did you think of the “HIMYM” series finale?
