Celebrities’ ways of responding to mean comments

You don’t have to be a celebrity to deal with Twitter trolls, but it does take some courage to fight back.

Although many choose to simply ignore the mean comments that ordinary people send to them in an attempt to express their anger and disapproval towards some of their actions, there are some celebrities who refuse any kind of wanton messages from people they don’t even know.

Some of the most recent examples of celebrities who have made headlines would be Czech footballer Petr Cech, who has his own way of dealing with his anti-fans, most of the times showing his humorous side and providing skeptic replies.

We cannot really tell how much the harsh comments displease the Czech stopper, but we can deduce from his ironical backslashes that these things might actually affect him. And how could they not? If we were to take a look at one of them, we can understand the player’s frustration.

Another celebrity who has received some powerful comments from Twitter trolls is Ashley Judd, who figured that it would not hurt expressing her opinion online, for the world to take notice of them. What really angered some sports fans was that she had the guts to tweet about how she considered one team was playing dirty, while at a baseball match.

Should we feed the trolls?

Some might say that the best way to avoid any kind of interaction with the trolls is to pay no attention to what they have to say. However, this could prove to be a tricky thing if we look at just some of the tweets out there. We cannot know for sure about real life, but in the online environment people don’t abstain from anything…anything bad, that is.

For instance, Ashley Judd is determined to press charges against the people who belittled her on Twitter, mainly because she is a woman and apparently women are not allowed to comment upon any sport-related activities. This might be quite a smart move from her, as it is one thing ignoring some rather hurtful comments, but it’s a whole different thing to tolerate any misogynistic vulgarities.
