Houston Zoo in the United States is now home to a male baby Asian elephant that was born at this facility about two weeks ago, on February 7.

The not-so-tiny pachyderm was born to mom Shanti, whose labor keepers say was both quick and fairly easy, Zoo Borns tells us.

The calf was born at about 2 in the morning, and started nursing about seven hours later. Its caretakers say that it has a healthy appetite, and that its mom never denies it a meal.

At the time of its birth, the baby elephant weighed about 385 pounds (almost 175 kilograms).

However, given the fact that it appears to be a foodie, it will probably not be long until it gets even rounder around the waist.

For the time being, the barn in which the calf lives together with its mom is not open to the public.

Zoo employees promise that, shortly after the baby elephant grows accustomed to its surroundings, they will allow visitors to see it.
