A romance between Gregory House and Lisa Cuddy in the upcoming season of “House M.D.” is unlikely at this point, as several reports indicate, but that’s not to say there won’t be room for some form of heartbreak. Whether the two characters do become romantically involved or not in the upcoming episodes, House can still break Cuddy’s heart, actress Lisa Edelstein tells Michael Ausiello of The Ausiello Files.

As fans know, the last episode of the fifth season saw House admitting himself to a mental institution, but not after a series of eerie events that took place only in his mind, and that also included getting close and personal with Cuddy, for whom it’s clear he has feelings. While at the clinic, though, House will also meet another woman, and their relationship will progress as such that it might actually break Cuddy’s heart, Edelstein says.

“So far in scripts I have read she has not acknowledged that she knows. They certainly haven’t discussed it. It might break her heart.” Edelstein says of House’s affair, which takes place in the season premiere. “She has to eventually deal with him coming back [to work] and what his role will be and how will she handle him and what kind of state is he coming back in. They have feelings for each other – deeper than colleagues. But who knows if they will ever be right for each other? They never seem to be coming at each other at the same time. We are having fun no matter how we play it. Being at odds and playing off Hugh is great fun. If we ever get together I just don’t want it to seems [sic] false or forced, but I trust Katie and David to make the right moves.” the actress further explains.

Even if nothing changes about the House-Cuddy duo (also known to fans as the Huddy couple), some changes might occur within House’s team, Ausiello says. As we also reported a while back, Cameron and Chase will resume their positions with House, and chances are that Thirteen and Taub might be leaving towards the end of the season as their three-year fellowship comes to an end. To prevent that from happening, the writers will have to come up with a different story to justify their staying there.

“It dawned on series creator David Shore – at least it did when I reminded him recently. He says he hasn’t figured out what will happen to Taub and Thirteen after their fellowships expire. Luckily, time is on his side. ‘It won’t be until the end of the season,’ he says, adding that it’s not in his nature to gloss over such plot points. ‘I don’t like those things to be fake-outs.’” Ausiello writes in his column Ask Ausiello, where he gives spoilers for the biggest shows on television at the moment.

Season 6 of “House M.D.” premieres on September 21 – stay tuned here for more updates and/or spoilers.
