Most products we use on a daily basis contain so many artificial ingredients that we are often lured into choosing them, and forget about the natural ones that our ancestors made ample use of. Not only do these do wonders for our skin, but they’re also a blessing for the senses, Lynne Sanders of Cosmetics A La Carte tells the Daily Mail. Such is the case of the rose, which is making a comeback this spring.

The rose is a delight for the senses, its smell bringing back memories of a distant and happy childhood, perhaps of when our grandmother used to put on face cream. However, the rose is also extremely good for the skin, being able to moisturize and hydrate it properly, a thing the many creams, oils and ointments now available on the market probably don’t do as well. The Persians certainly knew this, having used it for decades before anyone even considered using the rose for its fragrance.

“With all the high-tech products on the market, we forget about the natural remedies of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. However, we are beginning to revisit natural ingredients such as roses and finding the most wonderful benefits to our skin.” Sanders says. She and partner Christina Stewart have just launched a new line of cosmetic products based on roses, and it’s selling like hot cakes.

From shampoo, conditioner, face cream for day and night, hand cream and body lotion, many beauty products will include rose as an ingredient this spring, the Mail piece says. This is because the rose is both a delight for the skin and for the senses, thus managing to go where no other ingredient (artificial or not) has been able to go before, as they say. Granted, such products will probably bear a relatively higher price tag, but the result will certainly be worth it.

“Rose absolute has been proven to help repair broken capillaries and calm redness. It is also an excellent tissue hydrator.” Sanders says of a new product described as a “skin drink” that is applied only at nighttime. “Rose Absolute is believed to help reduce anxiety, promote feelings of well-being and is useful in helping to cope with depression or stress.” she adds. This just goes to show that beauty and wellbeing can – and should always – go hand in hand if we’re willing to go the extra mile.
