The official Hotmail application for Amazon’s Kindle Fire is now available for download via retailer’s web store, offering fast and easy access to Microsoft’s service.

Microsoft has been focused on making Hotmail work great not only on Windows devices, but also on those that run under other platforms.

Thus, the Redmond-based software giant released Hotmail applications for devices running under iOS 5, as well as a mobile client for Android. Today, the owners of Kindle Fire can also head over to Amazon’s app store to download the app.

“The recent release of iOS5 and our Hotmail application for Android has made it even easier to use Hotmail on those devices, and the result has been over 12 million active Hotmail users on iOS and over 3 million active users of our Android application,” David Law, director – Hotmail Product Management, notes in a blog post.

“The Hotmail team is happy to announce that our Kindle Fire application for Hotmail is now live in the Kindle store and ready for download for free,” he continues.

With the new Hotmail Kindle application, users will be able to sync all of their mail, contacts, folders, and subfolders through the Exchange Active Sync protocol.

This provides them with increased functionality over the Kindle Fire mail application, which was designed to simply download emails via POP3.

“Because the Kindle Fire uses a different implementation of Android, we needed to make some updates to our previous Hotmail app for Android to ensure it worked well,” David Law explains.

“Now that we’ve finished the work and the app is ready, we’re excited to give customers a great Hotmail experience on the Kindle Fire.”

Users will simply have to introduce their Windows Live ID to sign in. Then, they will be able to sync calendar and device contacts, send photos using Hotmail, share, receive, and view attachments and, of course, receive and send messages while on the go.
