The team says the classification board is wrong

The teams at Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital are aware of the report coming from the Australian Classification Board which is refusing to classify the title and basically bans it from being sold in the country because of offensive content, and the two companies say they have no plans to challenge the ruling in the future.

An announcement on the official site states that the teams “want to make clear that players are given an choice at the start of the game as to whether they wish to avoid content that alludes to sexual violence. The sequence in question is presented below in context, both after choosing the uncut version of the game and after choosing to avoid content that alludes to sexual violence.”

Devolver is also disappointed with the way the Board of Classification in Australia has stretched facts in order to make its ruling and believes that the facts do not support the decision about Hotline Miami 2.

The company adds, “Though we have no plans to officially challenge the ruling, we stand by our developers, their creative vision for the storyline, its characters and the game and look forward to delivering Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number to fans very soon.”

Traditionally, companies who are refused classification in a country tend to cut scenes from their game and then resubmit it in order to make sure that they can generate sales.

Australian gamers are encouraged to pirate the game

Jonathan Sodestrom, from Dennaton Games, has answered a fan e-mail by saying that if Hotline Miami 2 ends up not being available in Australia, they can just pirate it in order to make sure that they can enjoy the experience just as people in any other country.

Developers tend not to encourage such behavior but the market might be small enough that the company is more interested in keeping its fans happy than in revenue.

Hotline Miami 2 is set to be delivered to fans during the first quarter of this year on the PlayStation 4, the PC, the PS3, and the PlayStation Vita.
