Some time ago, it was rumored that Google is interested in developing a new version of Google Earth, the mapping tool that could assault the enterprise market. Today, it seems like those speculations are somehow true because several details about a potential Google Earth Enterprise were revealed on the Internet. According to InformationWeek, Thursday might be the day to bring the special flavor of the mapping tool. The most interesting aspect of Google Earth Enterprise would be the possibility to add a 2D view of the information provided by the software in any web product, allowing the consumers to view it straight from the window of their browser.

"Not only is it now easier for employees who need to access their organization's geo data - whether it be satellite images, terrain and elevation data or aerial imagery - to do so from almost anywhere, but they can integrate additional layers of information within their existing Web applications without ever having to leave the browser," said Matthew Glotzbach, Google Enterprise product management director, for InformationWeek.

Google Earth Enterprise will represent the fourth version of the application after Google Earth - the basic edition, Google Earth Plus and Google Earth Pro. According to the same source, Google Earth Enterprise will contain three elements: Google Earth Fusion, Google Earth Server and Google Earth Enterprise Client. The product will be valued at approximately $20,000.

Google discovered a huge potential in the enterprise market because there are numerous unexploited sides of this industry where the Mountain View company can insert its solutions. The new version of Google Earth is just another example that the search giant is now trying to turn its face to enterprises, a move that surely brings more money to the company than the freeware solutions offered to individuals.

If you want to download the basic version of Google Earth, you can take it straight from Softpedia.
