Ubisoft is focusing on different things with the tactical shooter

Ubisoft has offered a few more gameplay details about Rainbow Six: Siege, the next iteration in its tactical shooter experience, emphasizing the importance of hostages and destruction in the new title.

The Rainbow Six games have delivered some top-notch first-person tactical shooting, allowing players to control their own anti-terrorist squad and infiltrate enemy hideouts in all sorts of ways.

For Rainbow Six: Siege, the next iteration in the series, Ubisoft is taking things into a multiplayer direction, allowing for intense 5-versus-5 matches of terrorists and counter-terrorists.

As shown at E3 2014 last week, one of the new modes will be Hostage Rescue, which involves terrorists holding a hostage in a building and the counter-terrorists infiltrating the building to rescue the target.

According to Ubisoft's Andrew Witts, the designer of Siege, the hostage will react in all sorts of ways and isn't just a passive NPC that doesn't say anything in regards to what's happening around them.

"The hostage reacts to what is going on in a multiplayer match by shielding himself/herself during gunfights and calling out to the attacking team to let them know where he or she is when a defender is not on guard," Witts said on the UbiBlog.

"Because this is a living character, the hostage can in fact die, so players on both sides must be careful not to kill him because when he dies – the team that is responsible for his death will ultimately lose that round."

What's more, Rainbow Six: Siege also uses a special destruction system that can produce realistic results depending on what gear is used against the structure of a building. As such, shooting through the floor with a pistol will produce a small hole in an individual plank, while using blast charges will open up a much larger hole.

"Destruction is at the center of our experience and it certainly brings brand new tactical advantages to the franchise. No longer are players confined to breaching doors and windows to get the drop on enemies."

"Observe weak points in enemy defenses and breach through walls and floors to exploit them. The Realblast destruction engine is at the center of the Siege gameplay experience and enhances the tactical play that Rainbow fans know and love."

You can expect to see much more of Rainbow Six: Siege in the following months, ahead of the game's release in 2015 for the PC, PS4, and the Xbox One platforms.
