Intel's Next Unit of Computing (NUC) didn't start out in all that much force, since it was just one of many mini PCs, and Intel's relentless advertising campaign didn't really change that.

Still, the product must have sold at least mildly well if Intel is so eagerly upgrading it.

Indeed, the company revealed during IDF 2013 (Intel Developer Forum) that it was preparing the next-generation NUC, codenamed Horse Canyon DC53427HYE.

It is based on a Red Lake motherboard and seeks to remedy two main problems.

One is lack of performance. A 2.8 GHz (with Boost) Core i5-3427U CPU is employed, instead of the .8 GHz Core i3 of before. Intel vPro technology is supported.

The second problem is lack of USB 3.0. Now, there is a port at the front.

The new NUC will also have dual DisplayPort 1.1 and HDMI 1.4 outputs. VR-Zone has provided the photos.
