Horror movies are back in business

Horror movies are this summer's main course with an impressive 12 motion pictures premiering on the big screen featuring zombies, vampires as well as possesed children.

The horror movies that premiered this year had great success with the "Ring 2" going straight to the top of the box office within the first week with 75 million dollars only in the US. Amityville Horror was just as successful, getting the first place in the box office aswell from the first week.

Why the sudden interest in horror movies? In none of the previous seasons did the horror movies receive such a warm welcome. Psychanalysists say that the american public - and not only - is looking for a way of escaping the violence that surrounds them.

In an agitated 21st century world where war and natural catastrophes, people want to escape to a place they can control. It is true that horror movies are somewhat violent, however, people feel they're back in control after escaping a frightening or terrifying experience as soon as the movie ends.

A good example would be the movie "House of 1,000 Corpses", premiered just after the war in Iraq started, in the spring of 2003 surprising everyone with 17 million dollars in the box office. A large amount of money for a small movie with relatively unknown actors...

The premiere of "House of Wax" is today, produced by Warner Brothers in colaboration with Dark Castel. The story is about Paris Hilton and her friends being chased in a small town by a sadistic curator.

Another movie that everyone's waiting for is "The Devil's Rejects", a sequel to "House of 1,000 Corpses", in which the grotesque Firefly clan goes on a revenge mission after the crazy cop sets their house on fire. Natasha Lyonne, Steve Railsback and Sid Haiq are the stars of this violent and bloody horror, due for the 22nd July.

The stories include zombies, mist spirits, creatures of the night and bloody vengeful psychopats. What's should we expect ? "High tension" - psychopath and two teenager girls, "Undead" - walking dead and aliens and
"Cave" - nightmare creatures.

The horror fans and amateurs can only prepare to deal with the frightening cold chills, fingernails ripped from flesh and the nightmares to come... because there's going to be a HORROR summer!
