Foodies worldwide are now mourning the loss of 76,000 pounds (34,473 kilograms) of perfectly good beef that tragically met their doom while enjoying the Californian landscape this past Saturday.

According to Gawker, the beef was carefully tucked away in a truck. Unfortunately, the vehicle's rear wheels somehow caught fire, and soon enough the entire truck was engulfed by flames.

The incident occurred on Interstate 40 in Southern California, and caused local traffic to come to a standstill for about 2 hours.

Apparently, firefighters who arrived at the scene had to drench the truck and its precious cargo in about 6,500 gallons of water in order to put out the fire.

Talking to the press, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Fire Department said that the burning meat let out a very appealing smell. As he put it, the truck had a “wonderful BBQ beef rib odor to it.”
