Soccer star Hope Solo, who earned international fame for her performance in the 2012 London Olympic Games, is currently in police custody after a violent episode that occurred during a family gathering. Solo is being held without bail on charges of assault and domestic violence, The Seattle Times reports.

Solo has a very flammable temper, which became public knowledge in 2012, when she and fiancé Jerramy Stevens got into a fight that required police intervention. Jerramy was initially charged with domestic violence, but Solo dropped the charges – and went on to marry him just days later, much to the surprise of her fans.

Still, the incident brought to light a side of her that they didn’t know, because it showed them that she had a short temper and a willingness to use her fists to end an argument. This is now being confirmed with this most recent arrest.

According to the report, the Kirkland Police Department received a call for a disturbance over the weekend, dispatching officers to the home Solo shares with her husband. A family gathering was taking place but, for some reason, it had turned violent.

Solo apparently lashed out and attacked her sister and her 17-year-old nephew. Alcohol may have been a factor in her most recent outburst. Officers determined that she had instigated the attack, after discussing with the alleged victims at the scene. Both the sister and the nephew were displaying injuries, which had reportedly been inflicted by the soccer star.

“Solo is listed in the registry at the SCORE misdemeanor jail in South King County as Hope Amelia Stevens. She is being held without bail for two counts of investigation of fourth-degree domestic-violence assault. Police say Solo, 32, got into an argument with the relatives during a family gathering,” The Seattle Times writes.

“The male caller stated that a female at the residence was ‘hitting people’ and they could not get her to stop or to leave the house,” the report notes, adding that, once inside, they noticed Solo “appeared intoxicated and upset.”

Further details are not available at the moment, but it is believed Solo is still in custody as we speak. The family refused to issue a statement on the arrest or the events leading up to it, but the Seattle Reign FC has stepped forward to say they would not be addressing the matter in any way until the police investigation concludes.
