The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) has been among the first victims of OpUSA, the campaign launched by several hacktivist groups on May 7. The attack on HPD’s systems was carried out by X-Blackerz Inc.

HPD representatives have confirmed that the hackers gained access to the department’s “Alerts” database, Hawaii News Now reports.

The names, phone numbers and email addresses of over 3,500 individuals who had signed up for an “HPD alert” have been compromised.

The details of around two dozen HPD staff members – including names, phone numbers, email addresses and passwords – have also been leaked online by the hackers.

“HPD Alerts was a pilot program to provide breaking information to the public. It was recently discontinued due to technical problems not associated with the cyberattack,” the HPD stated.

The breached database has been removed and additional security measures have been implemented. Police services have not been affected by the incident.
