Honda has confirmed it will integrate Eyes Free, the Siri-based assistant, into its 2013 Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX models.

When the option is made available later this year, owners of a Siri-enabled iPhone running iOS 6 will be able to direct the assistant to perform specific tasks while they pay attention to the road. Eyes Free enables Siri to work without lighting up the iPhone’s display.

Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of automobile product planning, American Honda, said, “iPhone has become so integral to people's lives that they continue to use them in their vehicles.”

“Offering Honda and Acura owners Siri and its Eyes Free mode via Bluetooth is an incredible opportunity to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer's ever-changing needs,” Poponi added.

Honda believes Apple’s Siri is a valuable asset for drivers as it helps “meet the connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner,” the car maker said.

The company says it has carefully reengineered its own software to integrate Siri Eyes Free seamlessly into its Bluetooth HandsFreeLink.
