Strap some C4 on the back of an RC toy car and Revolt just got a lot more interesting

Homefront: The Revolution has an interesting premise, putting the mighty United States of America on the back foot for the first time in gaming history. The game sees the Korean People's Army occupying the US and follows the resistance fighters attempting to oppose the crushing heel of the new masters.

Homefront: The Revolution is being created by Crytek UK, to be published by Deep Silver and Crytek, and is set in Philadelphia, showing how everyday citizens attempt to fight back against the Korean invaders. An unlikely scenario, but one that brings forth a lot of potential for toying with improvised future-tech.

The developers are attempting to deliver a truly open-world first-person shooter game, with the gameplay focusing on guerrilla tactics and covert ops, the player's objective being to disrupt as much of the Korean People's Army's operation as possible, rather than the open warfare that's presented in military shooters.

Gamers will also be able to team up with their friends during their rebellion against the KPA, up to four players at a time being permitted to cooperate in order to stir as much chaos as possible.

The resistance army does not have the same resources that the Korean People's Army has, and as such they have to improvise with makeshift devices and weaponry, getting by in whatever manner they can.

The gameplay video highlights some of the action in the upcoming game, some of the options that players will be afforded, showing a pretty powerful Metro 2033 vibe, in the way players have to carefully make their way around the decrepit urban environment, scavenging and focusing on swift tactical strikes, hit and run operations.

The game will also have a crafting system, players being able to place various mods on their weapons and to create improvised explosive devices and traps from various pieces of scrap found during their forays into the KPA-occupied Philadelphia.

The devs are creating some unique scenarios that will offer players a lot of freedom, getting back to the roots of the Crytek design philosophy, and rather than presenting a single obvious and straightforward route of charging in and shooting everything up, they will require that gamers scout ahead and devise their own plans and see them to fruition.

The game seems to offer some realistic implementation of technology, using smartphones for recon, taking pictures and analyzing the environment before making a move, and even strapping an explosive device on a radio-controller toy and making use of the cover of a moving vehicle in order to get it into position and blow up a door.

Crytek UK seems to be on the right track to offering a proper sandbox shooter experience with a very interesting and legitimate premise, underdogs fending off an invasion, which seems poised to offer a very engaging and rewarding user experience.

Homefront: The Revolution is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2015, for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. The devs have mentioned that a current gen version of the game is out of the question, because the game makes use of the next-gen tech's power in order to deliver an experience at a much larger scale.
