Publisher THQ and the Random House Publishing Group have announced that they are working together to put out a novel set in the Homefront video game universe, created by John Milius and Raymond Benson, set to appear in early 2011 alongside the video game using the same name under the Del Rey imprint.

The story of Homefront is set in 2027 when the mighty America has been brought to its knees because of economic trouble and has been abandoned by its friends as the Greater Korean Republic invades and occupies.

A Resistance movement springs up to fight the invaders with the movie and the game following their lives and actions.

John Milius is the man behind the screenplay for Apocalypse Now but he also has been credited with work on: Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, Big Wednesday, Conan The Barbarian, Red Dawn, Clear And Present Danger, The Hunt For Red October, The Wind And The Lion, Farewell To The King, Jerimiah Johnson, Judge Roy Bean, Geronimo, Flight Of The Intruder and the Rome series on HBO.

He is currently working on the Homefront novel but also on a 2011 movie based on the exploits of Genghis Khan.

Raymond Benson has writing credits including six original novels based on the James Bond franchise but he also wrote, under the David Michaels pen name, the first two novels in the Tom Clancy based Splinter Cell series.

He has also worked on two Metal Gear Solid novels.

Danny Bilson, the executive vice president of Core Games at THQ, has stated, “We’re delighted to confirm the first element of what will become a vast transmedia strategy for Homefront. John Milius has already worked with us extensively on the Homefront game, and we’re thrilled to have him and Raymond on board as we develop our near-future world into other types of media. Random House is a great partner to help us reach an even broader audience.”

The Homefront game was supposed to arrive this fall but was delayed to March 2011, arriving on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
