See how a flat display becomes an undulating 3D spectral projection

This video by artist Benjamin Muzzin must be one of the coolest things I've ever seen a display do, and I've been keeping an eye on flat screens for years.

Basically, the man wanted to “explore the notion of the third dimension” so he took a monitor, affixed it to a special rotating axis and set it off at a spin.

And not just any spin, but fast enough for everything, not just the edges, to blur together until they were almost invisible.

Although that didn't last long either. Soon enough, light began to seep onto the screen, and because of the spin, it turned the LCD into a 3D sculpture of light, always changing. It really is a mesmerizing sight. Watch the video above for one and a half minutes of eye candy.

Maybe holograms aren't all that hard to make after all.
