Hollywood Shocked by Mad Mel Incident

Mel Gibson was arrested on Friday for DUI and behaved appallingly to police officers. But that's just the classic case of drunken driving... For the actor/director, things got more complicated than the average police pull over: the moment his car was stopped for a check-up, he started spitting racial and sexual remarks that made the world stand back in amazement.

Maybe everybody knows the precise details of Gibson's arrest, as it was all over the news this past weekend. But recently, the usually quiet Hollywood has risen up and demanded some stand to be taken. Representatives of big movie companies ask for justice, claiming that the public needs to know the complete report of the arrest. That means, including all the nasty comments that Mad Mel made.

ABC was the first to publicly announce that some actions (and especially words) can never be forgotten, by canceling the Gibson-produced miniseries about WWII. Of course, the reason offered was not directly related to the anti-Semite remark the drunken director made Friday night, but it was implied that this might have been the cause.

Gibson's publicist said, after his client apologized Saturday for the things he uttered but did not truly believe, that Mel has been struggling all his life with alcohol and that he went into rehab to get the situation under control. Considering that rehab may put a stop to any further DUI incident, we might as well ask ourselves: will that prevent Mad Mel from any SUI (speaking under the influence)?

People are very unlikely to forget that the son of a man who claims that the Holocaust is a widely exaggerated story, blown over proportions by Jews, said that Jews are, quote, 'guilty for all the wars in the world'.

Regarding the incident and the following public apology made by the actor, ADL National Director, Abraham Foxman said: 'Mel Gibson's apology is unremorseful and insufficient. It's not a proper apology because it does not go to the essence of his bigotry and his anti-Semitism. We would hope that Hollywood now would realize the bigot in their midst and that they will distance themselves from this anti-Semite'.
