A possible new Pirates of the Caribbean success

It seems that Hollywood is developing a pretty big relationship with the gaming industry as it is announcing new video game-based movies left and right, and has just released a few, the latest being the Max Payne one, where Mark Wahlberg played the troubled detective who was a favorite with gamers across the world.

Now it seems that with future Uncharted, World of Warcraft and BioShock movies already being planned Hollywood should really thank video games for the ideas they brought for new titles. A movie that is already in the making is the Prince of Persia one, which will turn the famous Middle Eastern prince from the Sands of Time trilogy into a worldwide movie star. Although not a lot is known, except for the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal will play the Prince, gamers are still going to have to wait until 2010 to see it in theaters across the world.

The producer of the movie, Jerry Bruckheimer, famous for blockbusters such as The Pirates of the Caribbean, Gone in Sixty Seconds or National Treasure, shared a few pieces of information with the public in a recent interview he gave to Latino Review. He went on to say that the movie was shaping up quite nicely and that it would follow a more romanced version of the very popular Sands of Time trilogy of video games.

“As far as the scope of it, [Prince of Persia is] enormous. It's a big romantic adventure,” said Bruckheimer, who then went on to reveal that parkour and acrobatic sequences would be present, with quite a few breathtaking sequences. When asked if it would be another success like The Pirates of the Caribbean, Bruckheimer stated that, “You never know. If you'd have asked me this question before, before the first 'Pirates' came out I would've said that you were nuts and that we just hoped to get this one sold. You don't know. Every movie is a different thing unto itself. I really just don't know.”

So there you have it, it seems that the future Prince of Persia movie is looking pretty good, and considering Bruckheimer's action-filled background, we're bound to see a lot of chases and battles in the upcoming motion picture. Until then, we can still play the current Prince of Persia game.
