Movie studios start to purchase video game licenses more than ever, hoping to grab the next blockbuster!

It seems to be forever since video games inspired from Hollywood made movies started to hit the market. It hasn't been long, though, since movies inspired from video games started to be produced. While some were huge failures, others, like Tomb Raider, for example, had a great success.

Yahoo Games has made a nice report of some of the biggest game names going to be produced as movies in the Hollywood heaven, and we took a look at that list, which sounds quite promising. Here are the titles:

Street Fighter - planned to be released sometime in 2008, the story is still mostly unknown, but it seems to be something about a tournament, centered around the beautiful (and fatal) Chun Li. Might be something like the Mortal Combat movie series...

World of Warcraft - to be released in 2009 and the nine million subscribers it already has already, draw the lines of a blockbuster to come. The story will be written around an Alliance hero, with the action happening one year prior to the events in the game. While neither the director, nor the cast is known, a nifty 100 million dollars budget pleases everybody at the moment.

God of War - gamers ask for it and it's not certain that they'll get it. But there are reports stating that scriptwriter David Self might have finished writing the movie. While Universal, the studio that holds the rights to the movies knows how to keep secrets, game developer David Jaffe, said that he sees Djimon Hounsou as a great Kratos.

Halo - here things are a little more complicated. First, Peter Jackson had the project in his hands, but eventually bailed out. It was then passed to short movie director Neill Blomkamp, but some other issues emerged and everything is put on hold. Probably not for long, since Halo 3 is doing so good on the market.

The Sims - as hard as it might be to believe, it seems we could have a Sims movie. 20th Century Fox has the rights for the movie and it will be produced by John Davis... nobody knows or even dares to predict what it might be about. We'll just have to wait and see.

Gears of War - there will be a God of War, there must be some gears, too. The alien invasion will be handled by New Line Cinema and it's said to be released sometime in 2009. However, the name of the director, as well as actor names are not known. But the script is written by Stuart Beattie, the guy who wrote Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl).

To this list of big name games to be turned into movies we can add Tekken, Onimusha or Max Payne. We should have some great fun in the next years!
