New rumors about Hitman 5, the next game in the popular stealth-based franchise, have appeared recently, courtesy of the voice actor that lent his talent to the game's main protagonist, Agent 47, but they have now been denied by an official statement from Hitman franchise development studio IO Interactive.

The Hitman series has always left a big mark on gamers, so rumors about the newest installment in the series, Hitman 5, were eagerly awaited.

Fans got excited last week when David Bateson, the actor that has voiced Agent 47 throughout all of the games in the Hitman series, confirmed that a new game will be revealed soon enough.

According to him, the team at IO Interactive is still developing the project, and that the new title will really be a departure in terms of story for the series.

"I don't envy IO Interactive for the pressure they must under to deliver," but "I am utterly convinced they will," he said.

Sadly, it seems that fans shouldn't get to anxious, as IO Interactive has just published on its official Twitter account that Bateson's statements aren't true, and that the studio isn't engaged in any project with the veteran voice actor.

"This is rumor control," said the studio on its Twitter account. "While Bateson's comments are flattering, they are a surprise - we are currently not working on projects with him."

Up until now, Hitman 5 has been rumored to appear around the holiday season of 2011, at the earliest, and will have a brand new story centered around its main protagonist, Agent 47.

According to the speculation, the game will be a reboot, as the assassin will reach a new "low point" and that players must guide him on the road to recovery, both from a psychological and physical standpoint.

As you can imagine, this involves achieving a lot of high end assassinations.

The last game in the series was Hitman: Blood Money, back in 2006, and since then IO Interactive developed the Kane and Lynch franchise, which hasn't exactly attracted fans like the adventures of Agent 47.
