Officials at the Chulalongkorn University in Thailand have apologized for displaying a banner showing Hitler as a superhero.

The image of the dead dictator was used alongside that of Superman, Captain America, the Hulk, and Batman in a mural created by students.

The university has blamed the students for putting out the display and writing "Congratulations" on it, Christian Post reports.

Dean Suppakorn Disatapundhu explained that it was the product of an art project meant to depict the concepts of good and bad.

"Hitler was supposed to serve as a conceptual paradox to the superheroes," he says, pointing out that Hitler is in greyscale, whereas the other characters are painted in color.

The photo was posted online, prompting backlash from Jewish human rights groups such as the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
