Even though everybody thought that Microsoft’s cloud boss Satya Nadella is close to becoming the new CEO, it turns out that Redmond is also negotiating with Sundar Pichai, head of Google’s Chrome and apps division.

Also an Indian, just like Satya Nadella, Pichai would be a smart pick for Microsoft, one analyst says while also explaining that such a singing would help the software giant put the focus on the mobile business.

“Microsoft could really move the ball down the field with Sundar Pichai in creating a new open operating system model for cloud, mobile, and social,” Dave Vellante, chief analyst at Wikibon, explained.

“The market has been looking for a CEO who can balance the role of leading the enterprise transformation while keeping that consumer momentum with Xbox and reboot mobile. Pichai is the total package of technology leadership and business acumen.”

An official announcement is expected to be made in just a couple of weeks, as Microsoft is said to be finalizing talks with candidates, including Nadella and Pichai.
