For the past 5 years, Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank has been in a relationship with agent John Campisi but things have taken a turn for the worse lately, as he’s pressuring her into making a more serious commitment with marriage, it has emerged.

After walking the red carpet at the Oscars 2011 alone, The National Enquirer has a story in its latest print issue (via here) claiming that there’s trouble in paradise.

Apparently, John wants Hilary to marry him but she doesn’t see the need for this kind of legal complication, having already gone through one painful and lengthy divorce.

As she sees it, it’s enough that they’re together and in love, getting married will not make them any happier. John, obviously, doesn’t agree with her on that and they’ve been fighting a lot lately.

“Hilary and John are at an all-time low point right now. To put it bluntly, the spark between them is gone. They’re bickering, and it’s hard to remember the last time either of them looked truly happy,” an unnamed source reveals for the tabloid.

There’s one thing more that’s keeping Hilary from saying I Do to John’s proposal: she feels that he’s too controlling and she doesn’t want to make him feel even more entitled to act this way by marrying him.

“She knows John has her best interests at heart, but sometimes she finds him so suffocating, and it’s hard for her to separate work from her personal life. They need to give each other space if they’re to have any chance of turning their romance around and having a future together,” says the spy.

“As much as Hilary respects marriage, she now sees legal commitment as unnecessary in terms of happiness and personal fulfillment… I think eventually she may have been talked into it if John had stopped pressuring her so strongly,” the spy adds.

“But he’s turned her off getting married – at least for the time being – by ramming the idea down her throat, day in and day out,” says the insider.
