A modder, meaning a user that adds changes to a game, has released a mod, called HotCoffee, which allows an erotic/pornographic minigame to be played in GTA.
According to his sayings, the source code of this minigame was already in the game and all he had to do was to unlock it. Rockstar Games' reply, the producer of the game, was that the code doesn't exist in the original game, the mod being responsible for that.
ESRB started to investigate whether the rating initially granted
to the game was the correct one, and whether it has to be changed.
These are the facts which are about to cause the greatest scandal in the games' industry. Why? Because senators like Hillary Clinton and John Liberman, and Jack Thompson, a strong activist against video games, and probably many other are set to make an example out of Rockstar Games, although this is a problem that strictly concerns the producer and ESRB.
In her speech, Senator Hillary Clinton talks about pornography and violence. Let's make up our minds, is GTA accused of pornography, violence or both?
The problem is that while Senator Clinton is holding a press conference which condemns GTA, the HotCoffee is still available on the Internet. After all, is the mod's maker absolved of any responsibility? Or is everybody too preoccupied with the scandal that they have forgotten to stop the HotCoffee mod or are they too preoccupied with passing another law?
I think it would have been best for everybody to wait until the ESRB gave the verdict, and only then to start accusing. What if it will be proven that Rockstar Games had nothing to do with the pornographic scenes? It's likely that we will see then another series of spectacular events where the accusers will become defendants.
