Romania's capital city, Bucharest, has long had a problem with stray dogs. However, Hilary Swank offers to lend a helping hand in dealing with this issue and advises local authorities to neuter, rather than kill the animals.

During a recent visit to Bucharest, she took a genuine interest in the projects the Vier Pfoten animal welfare foundation is presently working on and made quite a compelling case about how people should learn how to interact with stray dogs.

The actress' love for animals is no news. She often speaks about how they offer people unconditional love and therefore need to be protected in return.

Thus, when news of Romania's problems with stray dogs reached her ears, she didn't hesitate in getting involved and push for sterilization plans, reports Dog Tipper.

Apparently, in this country, if sterilization is not given the go-ahead, there are only two more options for ridding the streets of stray dogs: either putting the animals to sleep, or putting them in shelters.

Given the fact that Hillary Swank believes that at least some of these dogs can be trained and made to help disadvantaged people, it is no wonder that she does not agree either with euthanasia, or with having dogs confined in shelters.

The actress also announced that she has plans of setting the basis for a US charity entitled “Hilaroo.”

In case one was wondering how this particular name came up, let us inform you that “Hilaroo” is a combination of Hilary – the actress's name, and Karoo – her late dog's name.

Anyway, “Hilaroo” is supposed to push for animals and humans coming together and learning to co-exist on friendly terms, as this would benefit both of them.

As Hillary Swank explains, “The unconditional love of an animal is very healing and teaches them about not just unconditional love but about a relationship, about responsibility, about anger management.”
