Actress and singer Hilary Duff gave birth to her first child in March this year but, unlike other celebrity moms, she's still struggling to shed the extra weight. It's normal, she says in a new interview, addressing all those who criticize her for “not caring.”

Hilary and her family were on vacation last week and, as it usually happens, the paparazzi were around. They snapped several shots of her in a 2-piece bikini – and reactions to these pics have been anything but kind.

In an interview with InTouch (via the Daily Mail), Hilary puts all those who picked on her on blast, pointing out for them that it's not normal for a woman to shed the weight overnight.

Her priorities right now are her child and her family, so chances of her sleeping at the gym just so she can bounce back into shape are slim to none, she says.

“Say it to my face,” Hilary says, addressing her critics.

“I’m not perfect, but I feel fantastic. This is how it goes for most women – the weight doesn’t fall off overnight,” she adds.

Even so, negative comments to her photos are still coming in, the British tabloid notes.

“A month or so ago I was concerned that she wouldn’t even try to lose weight. Now I’m convinced she doesn’t even care how she looks, gross!” one person writes.

“She’s turned into her mother. That happens,” adds another.

It's a good thing then that Hilary isn't really paying attention to what people are saying about her figure these days: she has more important things to care about.

“I don’t care what people say. I’m not back to where I want to be, but I’m not stressing it,” she says.

Indeed, Hilary is working out to make sure she gets back in shape, but she's not even thinking about overdoing it or putting herself on a strict diet that might prevent her from enjoying this special moment with her family.

In a recent interview, the star admitted that she had “a blast” while pregnant, partly using the pregnancy as an excuse to indulge every one of her whims, which was a most welcome change for her who had spent her entire life in the spotlight, being super-cautious about what she ate.

Duff said she would probably not do the same on her second child but, as far as this first pregnancy went, she was not sorry for gaining weight.
