14 DAY TRIAL // In January, after spending New Year’s together, Hilary Duff and husband of 3 years Mike Comrie made public their decision to separate. A rep for the couple even stressed that there was no saving the marriage, as they had been in counseling for 18 months, to no avail.
The rep was wrong, obviously. All it took for Hilary and Mike to understand that they still loved each other enough to be willing to work through their differences was a trip to the Bahamas. It wasn’t meant to be a romantic getaway, but it did turn into one, Radar Online reports.
In mid-February, Hilary and Mike packed their bags and Luca’s, their son, and headed for a little family vacation that was supposed to double as a business trip, on which the adults could talk about certain technicalities of the divorce, such as custody and visitation, and division of assets.
At the time, from what insiders reveal to the publication, both had realized that there was no turning back and that divorce was the only solution possible. They had also come to terms with this and were set on making the split as amicable as possible, so that Luca wouldn’t be caught in the middle.
Well, there’s no need for that anymore. Hilary and Mike have called off the divorce for now and are working on their marriage.
“Hilary and Mike hooked up when they were in the Bahamas. Once they were together with their son Luca in the Caribbean, it got emotional and real. Mike broke down and begged Hilary for a second chance,” an insider explains.
“They’ve been meeting for hookups ever since, and Hilary’s softened and the two are moving forward to see if they can work it out. Hilary’s one stipulation is that Mike step up to full-time parenting duties while she works on her new TV show and her music career,” adds the source.
News of reconciliation should probably not be that shocking to fans since Hilary and Mike kept doing a lot of things together even after the official split, as countless paparazzi photos available online can attest. They even did their shopping together, which seemed a bit strange for a couple no longer sharing the same house.
However, before you rush to congratulate them, bear in mind that official confirmation of the reconciliation is still pending. It could be that Hilary doesn’t believe they’re ready yet to shout it from rooftops.
