A Texas high school senior is getting ready to take on a big job, as he was sworn in as mayor of Archer City, in Northern Texas, on Friday morning.

Kelvin Green is only 18 years old and is graduating from high school this month, but he's already entering the political ring. Given that no one else filed to run for mayor of the small community, Green won by default.

He thus became the youngest mayor since the town was founded in 1888, and city officials say the teenager is about twenty years younger than all politicians who held the position previously.

“The city wanted me in this position even though there was not an election,” Green told NewsChannel 6 before being sworn in. “It's more or less a childhood dream. As it's gotten closer I've become more excited and I'm ready to take on the task for sure.”

Green says he doesn't have a grand agenda as the city's mayor, but, given that the town is currently facing a stage-four drought, this will probably be the first issue he will try tackle.

After officially taking the office, the teenager had to rush off to be in a playoff baseball game, as the Archer City High School Wildcats baseball team played against Valley Mills the same day Green became a mayor.
