A skit performed during a homecoming pep rally at the Waverly High School in Waverly, New York got more media attention than high school reps had bargained for, when it was dubbed racist and insensitive by several representatives of media outlets.

Three white students apparently wore black face masks to recreate an incident of domestic violence in which pop singers Rihanna and Chris Brown were involved.

According to thefw.com, students decided to add some flavor to the rally, to get students fired up before a big football game.

During the “Mr. Waverly” segment, one student wearing a black mask and dressed to resemble rapper Chris Brown pretended to hit a student dressed like Rihanna, until she plummeted to the ground.

The student population at Waverly is 97% white. Three years ago, during another pep rally, teachers raised the bar for displays of racism, when they dressed up, one like a white colonist, and one like a Native American.

The Native American got chased around the room, while waving a tomahawk, as you can see in the clip below.
