Nokia announced the extension of its high-performance IP Security appliances portfolio by adding a new security platform: the Nokia IP2450 for firewall/VPN. The new IP2450 takes advantage of combined innovations from Nokia, Check Point and Intel and features the latest technology in chipsets and applications. It is a reliable IP Security appliance model that intends to boost investment protection performances in the next years.

Nokia IP2450 has a two rack unit form factor, offering the smallest form factor from its class and saving important rack space. It also has the lowest price per Gigabit of firewall throughput and lowest price per port. With Intel I/O Acceleration Technology and two Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5355 processors, the IP2450 incorporates the latest multi-core technology.

Customers using Nokia IP2450 can activate the security features of Check Point VPN-1 UTM and Check Point VPN-1 Power, thanks to the two quad-core design. Overall system performance can be improved and next-generation multi-processing enterprise security technologies are supported.

"As threats become more sophisticated and as network traffic patterns change, security solutions must perform deeper inspections of more sizes and types of packets faster than ever before," says Tom Furlong, vice president, Security and Mobile Connectivity, Nokia. "As a result, large businesses and service providers are demanding higher performance from their security appliances, while also balancing the need to control costs and maximize investments. Nokia IP2450 was specifically designed to meet all these needs."

More and more businesses demand higher performances for their network security appliances and this is why Nokia IP2450 was created, standing out as a next generation, high-end security appliance designed to provide business continuity, adaptability and scalability. Furthermore, Nokia IP2450 offers investment protection and permits the increase of platform's performance to around 20 Gbps (Gigabits) of firewall throughput by acquiring one or two high-port density Nokia Accelerated Data Path Cards. Extra performance boosting can be achieved by buying multiprocessing software applications and software upgrades.
