The situation won't really improve much for a couple of months

Though people may not have learned about it, high-end camera lenses have been experiencing their own episode of undersupply lately.

You aren't bound to easily notice it, since shortages usually mean higher prices, a difference that isn't obvious on things that already cost a fortune.

Anyway, demand for digital still camera lenses with high optical zoom has risen faster than supply.

The situation came about as a result of multiple factors: new technology developments, releases of new cameras, upgrades to existing lines, increasing customer interest.

And by upgrades, we mean to say that manufacturers have been pushing high-end DSCs from lower zoom capabilities to 6x, 8x and 10x and even 26x and 42x specifications.

The shortage will persist throughout the rest of the second quarter. Other markets where supply is at less than favorable levels are those of graphics cards and CPUs.
