Hideo Kojima has revealed that the recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a prequel title, but the developer would not reveal what other title the game is related to.

The series creator stated that it would be set after all other prequel titles, which might mean that it is designed to inhabit a space just before the first or second Metal Gear Solid games.

Kojima also refused to refer to Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes as Metal Gear Solid 5, although the veteran game maker did not offer a clear reason.

He says that the Ground Zeroes name was chosen in order to evoke the feeling of breakthrough that was linked to the first game in the series, this time with the addition of the new power of the Fox Engine.

Hideo Kojima is only acting in an advisory role with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but he will be deeply involved in the actual development of Ground Zeroes, making sure that it represents a core experience in the series.

Kojima stated, “One thing I want to make clear is that Ground Zeroes is something I’m making myself. I want to make it clear that Snake is back, but I’m also back. I’m putting all my effort into that.”

Sources inside Kojima Productions also report that Ground Zeroes is not the same game as Project Ogre, which means that there’s still another video game that the team might officially announce in the coming year.

The main character of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is Big Boss and for the first time in the history of the series, a true open-world structure will be used, with larger areas than in Metal Gear Solid 4.

The new Fox Engine also allows for smoother movements and better animations and there’s more of a focus on stealth and undetected kills.
