Collaborating with 5pb games

Hideo Kojima will be developing an adventure game, according to Chiyomaru Shikura, the chief executive officer of 5pb. This is quite surprising news, given the fact the Shikura's company is known more for dating simulation titles, rather than the serious core creations that Kojima has been working on in his career.

In May, Shikura reported that he was meeting Hideo Kojima, Kenichioro Imaizumi, producer at Kojima Productions, and Suda 51, the head of Grasshopper Manufacturer, the studio behind the No More Heroes franchise. It was said that the three were planning to create an adventure game together, but nothing more was revealed until now.

In an interview with 4gamer, translated by Andriasang, Shikura said that he was going to work with Kojima. “With regards to the projects that I'm directly involved in, there's the third entry in that science series,” he told 4gamer, “ and the project with Konami's Hideo Kojima. I think these are the two things that I should first put my full effort behind.”

The interviewer asked for more details about the Kojima project, Shikura replied that, “Yes, Kojima said that he wanted to make an adventure game. We're still at the level of 'let's lock ourselves away in the mountains somewhere and work on the plot,' so the specifics haven't been finalized.” He did not wish to say more about this future game and directed all further questions to Kojima himself.

Hideo Kojima has worked on two science fiction adventure games before, Snatchers and Policenauts, both revolving around murder mysteries. This may be the project about which he declared that it would break taboos and that if it failed, he would have to retreat from the industry, while Shikura may be the ally he mentioned in the twitter where he made this information public.
